We are greater than division. We are a people. We are Earth.

Overnight, Brexit has been realised.

Much of what I want to say has already been said, each with varying degrees of anger, sadness and pain shared amongst my internationally-minded friends.

“Xenophobia has won”; “arrogance has prevailed”; “the pound is at its lowest point since 1985”; “I don’t know where I belong anymore.”

The outcome of the referendum is a product of many things.

A socioeconomic divide that digs deep into a fractured nation, the elicitation of fear that allows politicians to shift and redirect focus away from their own ineptitude, and a rise of nationalism that allows people to feel vicarious pride through a perception of greatness that rises beyond them.

Yet, I have faith that we will see a positive resolution.

No matter the bleakness of today, our world is greater than the sum of one day.

Over history, we’ve fracture over political alignment, religion, sexuality, national affiliation and the endless ways we’ve sought to differentiate ourselves from one another.

Yet, we’ve always come back together as one.

More than ever, I look towards solidarity as a global community. I look forward to the future that we head towards – regardless of the conflict that seeks to delay us.

England, The United Kingdom, The European Union and all labels in between are all just different ways of looking at pieces of the world; of Earth.

No matter what happened yesterday, what happens today or what will happen as our tomorrows unfold, I won’t let this go.

We are greater than division. We are a people. We are Earth.
